This may be called Fancy Girl Design Studio, but it doesn’t mean I don’t enjoy creating designs for guys at all. Today I decided to feature one recent project that I had such fun with. Kevin wanted his blog to have the feel of an Abercrombie and Fitch store. How’s that for style inspiration? He loved dark colours and a bit of organized chaos.
For his header logo, he wanted something that had icons that represented topics that he loved to blog about, but didn’t look cluttered. Here’s what I came up with —
What do you think? I love the colour palette that he chose, it’s very masculine and mysterious! I picked out strong sans-serif fonts for use on the website and logo. The titles are in Fjalla One, which is a really nice condensed typeface with a strong presence.
We chose to work on the Metro Pro theme from Studiopress as base for his theme. It has a nice widgetized homepage that I customized to show the slider at the top, followed by the blog feed in excerpts. The continue reading link is styled in such a way that it also serves as a divider between posts. Kevin’s blog is fully mobile responsive and uses html5 markup. Check out the screenshots!
I will feature more of these non-girly projects. It’s very refreshing to work on them in between the frilly feminine ones! Oh, and yes, I do change the footer credits to show my name instead of Fancy Girl Designs for my male clients. Do check out Kevin’s site!
