I have a thing for bird accents. (Notice my new logo?) I use them everywhere! I have bird jars, bird sculptures, bird prints, and even bird patterns on notebooks. It all started, I suppose, when my mom bought this cute floor lamp for me, and hand-carried it all the way here to Singapore:
To keep myself from buying stuff that I don’t really need, or will not go with the rest of my living room decor, I follow a guideline: it has to be either white (silver is also ok), or go with the bird theme. While I regularly edit the flat for anything that doesn’t belong or doesn’t look good, I’m also very strict with my purchases. No matter how cute or pretty something is, if it won’t go with the decor, I’m not buying it. Not only has this saved me money, it has also prevented clutter from building up in our flat.
Here are some of my bird accents:
I love the see no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil owls! They’re white, ceramic, and oh so cute! Those 2 birds on the bookshelf are also ceramic, with a crackle glaze and a sort of shabby chic look to them. And then I found a matching jar — swoon! It’s near the entry-way, so we keep small stuff in it like keys, locks, and other bric-a-brac. I found these treasures at EggThree in 112 Katong Mall.
There are also bird touches elsewhere, like in these four prints I designed and framed (with Ikea wooden frames), and this gorgeous pillow that I found at Iwannagohome. Yes, that’s the name of the store, and it’s one of my favourite haunts. They have branches at Great World City, Parkway Parade, and Tanglin Mall. The name is quite apt, as that’s what my sons yell after being there for a few minutes. =)
I’m itching to go home for a few weeks and shop for more home decor items. I’m still looking for a couple of classic white vases – you know, the ones with a bulbous base and a narrow neck that gradually opens to a flared lip? Those. I’ve been to so many malls here, and I still cannot find any!
Do you follow a theme when you decorate your home? What are your favourite home decor shops? Do share your tips!
Love the lamp, the see-hear-speak no evil owls, your frames, and your “BOOK” display. Seems like your house has the same color palette as your blog site. All lovely and wonderful 🙂
Hi Nerissa,
Yes, these are the colors that make me happy, so I use them everywhere! =) Do you have a decorating theme as well?
Thanks for dropping by!

Haha! Hello Ate Kikay! I found some cute chicken stuff at iwannagohome too! =) You have to come back to Singapore soon.
