A case study.
Kendall Hamill owns a successful luxury brand of home scents in Singapore called Temple Candles. Her products have been featured in several magazines and online publications and are always in the list of top luxury candles or home scents. Having an interior design background herself, Kendall is very stylish and has a remarkable attention to detail. She designed her logo and website on her own.
Now that her business has grown and expanded, she approached me to do an audit on her visual brand identity as well as her website, in order to elevate it and make everything look more professional.

We did a deep dive into her business goals and her brand vision, as well as her overall creative style. Some elements of her brand were already very well-known, and highly associated with it, such as the quatrefoil emblem and the coordinating patterns. Her colour palette is also perfect, and didn’t need changing. What she needed was a brand refresh, not a complete rebranding.
The goal was to elevate this luxury brand with stunning typography and a much more refined aesthetic while maintaining the same visual brand identity.
Typography is one of the most important aspects of your design system, and something that is best established early on. But what if you didn’t do that, but your logo is already well established? That’s where a brand refresh comes in. Without changing the overall identity, developing a clear typography system will make a huge impact on the design system. That’s what Temple Candles lacked, which is why there was no consistency in typefaces and fonts used from her website to her packaging.

Developing the typography system meant having a guide that she could implement across her platforms – website, marketing collaterals, and packaging. We chose a high contrast serif for her headlines, giving the brand a more high-end, stylish look.

Website Edits

We implemented the typography system to the website, and the results were game changing. It really elevated the look of the website, as well as the readability. Her Shopify site now looks absolutely stunning. Plus, I also helped her improve her SEO with meta descriptions on all her images and major pages. (From 101+ AR to 7 in one week, and now they’re at the top of search results after the ads!) Check out the beautiful website here. Be prepared to shop because her products are gorgeous!
This was such a fun and fulfilling project from start to finish! It helps if the client knows her brand really well, is able to communicate her goals and requirements clearly, and trusts you to help her. But the most important thing is that I really believe in this brand myself, and have been a fan for years, even before she reached out to me for advice.
