Hello there! I’m back from my vacation and in typical fashion, I hit the ground running. There are still quite a few projects to finish before the year ends, presents to wrap, parties to plan and prepare for, holiday cards to send, and cooking and baking galore!
Back in the day when I used to sell wedding invitations and accessories, November and December were my busiest months. Those were hectic weeks when I barely had time to breathe, let alone relax. We were working furiously right up to Christmas eve! It’s a good thing I wasn’t married with kids then. I’m thankful that my current business actually allows me to plan my schedule so that I can take time off during the holidays. And I really resolved to do exactly that this year.
Our one month vacation was fantastic, and much-needed. It was nice to see some of my favourite clients face to face, and have mini-reunions with friends and family. I shopped a lot! And ate a lot too! I also took time to relax and just not think about anything business-related for a few days. It was quite refreshing! Freelancers and work-at-home mums will understand how our work never really ends, and how we’re constantly “on” even when we’re doing something unrelated. Well, this time I made sure there were moments when my work mode was totally turned off. That’s a real breakthrough for a workaholic like me.
How about you? Do you take time off for the holidays too? Or is your line of work busiest during this season? I’d love to hear your thoughts!
