The 2-month lockdown in Singapore (which the government called “Circuit Breaker”) was a boon for food delivery services. It’s safe to say our family contributed quite a bit to the earnings of Foodpanda, Grab Food, and Deliveroo. I mean, yes, we cooked & baked a lot at home, but we did miss our favourite restaurants so much, and ordered regularly from them.
For some time, I had been craving for salted egg crab. This is a dish that I thoroughly enjoy eating, but it’s so hard to maintain a ladylike composure when you’re tearing into crab meat with your hands, and sucking on crab claws, so I avoid eating this at restaurants.
I’m also really sensitive to seafood – mainly crustaceans – that are not fresh – I break out in rashes! Another reason I avoid ordering crabs, no matter how much I love them.
Which is why 8Crabs was a delightful discovery! The crabs we ordered were the meatiest, sweetest-tasting crabs I have ever tried. Bar none. Not watery at all, and you can tell they weren’t using strong sauce flavours to mask any lack of freshness.

To ensure freshness, the crabs are caught, flown, prepared and delivered to you within 12 hours. 8 Crabs is the only company in Singapore using grade AAA premium Sri Lankan sourced wild crabs. (See, even their crabs are fancy!) These crabs are happy crabs. They lived in the wild, instead of farmed in small spaces. You can really tell the difference.

My husband loved the chilli crab, which was only medium in spiciness. Some of the others we tried were so offensively spicy you couldn’t taste anything anymore. I wish we ordered the man tou buns! That’s what I forgot. The sauce was too good to waste.

My eternal favourite is and will always be the crab in salted egg sauce. See that huge platter there? It was almost filled by that single large crab. Guess what was left over after our meal? The shell.
Price-wise, I was surprised at how affordable they are. The large crabs are only $68 each. And they are large. For reference, my platters are 16 inches wide.
Delivery was really fast – you get your order in 1 hour. (Although I did a 2-day advance order.) They have a one driver to an order policy across their 12 kitchens island-wide. Which is great for the days when you forget to prepare dinner. π
And unlike a lot of local restaurants, their website actually makes it easy for you to order. (They must have hired a good ux designer!) They probably need a better photographer though, because the photos are not so appetizing. Which is a shame, because the crabs are fantastic.
