If you’re an interior design junkie like me, you would have noticed a resurgence of metallics lately. Brass, gold, and copper are definitely making a comeback. I would credit Kelly Wearstler, the ultra glam designer diva (who decorates entire rooms with brass) for much of this trend. Metals always stand out, particularly when you contrast them against a simple, minimalist space. I’m loving this trend, and plan to incorporate touches of brass in our living room soon.
Here are samples of how metallics are shining (pun intended), from wedding cakes to art prints.
- Love Candy Print by Made by Girl.
- New Year calligraphy by Saffron Avenue.
- Wedding Style by Tom Kat Studio
- Brass vase by Nate Berkus for Target
- Brass coffee table from Spearmint Decor
- Gold Ampersand by Ampersand Design Studio
- Brass Bookshelf featured on The Decorista.
And then of course, you also see it on web design. The trick to using metals or anything glittery is to use it sparingly. Gold or any metal used with busy vivid colours and lots of embellishments will only make your site look tacky. The best ones I’ve seen use a lot of white space, and I mean literal white space, modern fonts, and very minimal design elements. Like these sites:
donnadaily.com
katievee.com
amandamarieblog.com
Notice what they all have in common? The layout is simple, there is a lot of white space, the metallics are paired with rustic handdrawn elements, and everything else is kept clean and minimalist.
Would you consider having some glitter and shine on your website or blog design? Let me know in the comments.
Yes, I’ve been wanting to. For my next update, on my professional site, I’d like to add a bit of light gold texture to some of the elements (and I’m composing my questionnaire to you right now, so THAT’s going on my preferences!)
I can’t wait to start on it! 😉
Thank you for the shout out!!
I’m a fan of your work!
