This was one of the most complicated website builds I’ve ever done. Fleur de lis Event Consulting is a wedding and event planning company in Florida, USA. I did this project in collaboration with two other lovely ladies, Ginny Krauss of The Wedding Concierge, and Jennyfer Tan of Migration to WordPress. Our client had two previous sites – her main website was built on Wix, and her blog was on Weebly. She wanted to move everything to WordPress and have only one website with an integrated blog, but keeping the same design elements and layout, and making everything mobile responsive.
In contrast to my other projects, this one needed more technical magic to meet her various requirements. I’m always eager to take up a challenge, so this was really fantastic as I learned so much while trying to figure out how to get everything just right. Her menubar is split into 2, with her logo in the middle. This is easy enough to do on a fixed layout, but a bit tricky on mobile responsive themes. The ribbon header on the homepage is present in other pages, but with different text content. The social media icons at the top are visible on pages, but on the blog. I used the Display Widgets plugin for that.
Here is how her blog page looks. We kept the same fonts and colors from her previous blog, and added a few styling tweaks like the date and post dividers.
Oh, and do check out her other pages, they’re so pretty!
Portfolio pages are linked to others of the same category so that it’s easy to navigate (this had to be hard-coded). I used the Mosaic Gallery plugin to get her portfolio photos to appear in a mosaic. This is a nice feature to use on themed portfolio pages. It looks fantastic! You are taken to a lightbox when you click on any image, so you get to see the large version.
Her main pages also had some styling. Mostly I used the genesis column classes to get the areas to align properly and to look good even on different screens.
It was great to finally see everything go live! And it was all thanks to the invaluable help and support that Ginny and Jenn gave. Jenn tirelessly migrated all the content, sometimes page per page because of incompatibility issues. She’s not the migration queen for nothing, you know! And the incomparable Ginny, who coordinated everything, was so patient and altogether amazing! These ladies made a gargantuan task possible. Thank you Ginny and Jenn!
Do check out Fleur de Lis Event Consuling. Her portfolio posts alone are worth a visit! Her photos are amazing!
