Elizabeth Golden, the talented lady behind J’adore Studios, is a luxury wedding photographer based in Florida. She wanted a beautiful, sexy, dramatic, & luxurious look for her brand, with gold foil on a black background her specific request. Ginny Krauss did such a wonderful job with her brand strategy, and this team effort really paid off!
I had never done a website design before with a black background, and I was a bit anxious. It is very easy to make a mistake and cross the line over to goth. But when I saw her photography style, I completely understood why a black background is necessary! More on that later.
We used a very minimal color palette: just black, gold, and grey. Here are the design options that I presented her:
She asked me to combine elements from both concepts, and with a few adjustments, came up with the final logo design:
It’s very dramatic and sexy!
After finalizing the logo design, we moved on to her photography portfolio website. It was important to her that her images were displayed at their best, and that the website would be fully mobile responsive. No thumbnail galleries here, all the albums have full-width sliders so you can see her stunning photography in full.
Liz specified that she wanted thumbnail navigation for her gallery sliders. It allows viewers to see that the other images are and makes navigation really user-friendly. Just look how the black background really sets off her images – Liz is a master at chiaroscuro. All I really had to do was provide the proper frame.
The website looks slightly different on mobile devices – homepage slider images stretch across the screen so you can enjoy her gorgeous photography even on small screens.
It was such a privilege and a pleasure working with Liz! Do check out her website – if you love photography and weddings, you’ll get tons of inspiration. Her family portraits are also to die for! It is now officially on my bucket list to have our portraits taken by Liz Golden.
