Sonali Hindmarch approached me early this year to design and build her online store, Little Goldie. (Sonali means golden in Sanskrit.) While looking for inspiration to decorate her baby’s bedroom, she found a lot of high-quality, beautiful pieces made by independent craftspeople and designers. She wanted to bring all these gorgeous finds together into one store. A lot of the pieces she sells are handmade, and have been chosen for their minimal environmental impact.
She already had a beautiful logo for Little Goldie, designed by Belinda Love Lee. I thought it was really cute and fun, and perfect for the look she was going for. It was easy enough to build around the existing logo, as it inspired the look of the entire site. Sonali wanted a very clean, very timeless look, with soft colors and lots of white space, simple fonts with wide kerning, and a very gender neutral look.
THE HOMEPAGE
The homepage features a square slider with hand-drawn navigation arrows, and a collapsing menu on the left side so viewers can easily access her shop categories. The subcategories open up when you click on the major category tabs.
THE BLOG PAGE
Lots of white space and soft colors.
THE SHOP PAGE
The collapsing menu is visible on the shop pages, and allows visitors to navigate her various product categories. Sonali wanted to make sure that people can easily find what they’re looking for so her site will be easy to use. You know what’s amazing? Sonali took all the photos in her site, even the styled ones. She’s so talented! And really nice to work with – like most creatives, she knew exactly what she wanted and was able to communicate it clearly.
This online shop is built on WordPress, and runs on the Genesis Framework and Woocommerce. It is totally mobile responsive, of course. Do check out the site!
