This project inspired a whole new wave of hand-drawn designs here at the Studio. Golightly Events is an event management company in Canada that specializes in gluten-free and food-allergen-free events, as well as environmentally-conscious event planning. Samantha first approached me and asked if I could do watercolor illustrations in her favourite style. She described a certain look that she wanted, and she was very specific, which I really appreciated.
We started by working on the illustration that would be the central character in the overall design.
Then we worked on her logo. She wanted something flirty and fun that would go well with the look of the character illustration. We chose calligraphy fonts for the title, matched with a very modern and thick sans-serif for the tagline.
Then it was on to her website! She wanted a Parisian scene on the header, behind the logo, and custom buttons for all her links. We balanced the cool blue and greys with some warm peach and pink, and added more hand-drawn elements. Samantha specified that she wanted the site to contain illustrations and remain airy, fresh and fun with a hint of glamour/strength to reflect the organizational skills that event management requires.
Brand Board Extension for Website
Like all my other web design projects, Golightly Events is built on the Genesis Framework, is totally mobile responsive, and uses html5 markup.
We used one more custom watercolor illustration, which we placed in the About page. I loved working on this one! She asked for a lady wearing a grey sweater and white tulle skirt, sitting on a French chair and working on her desk with an iMac and a vase of hydrangeas. So chic! I was very happy to oblige.
A different set of buttons go on every set of pages.
She hasn’t started blogging yet, so I can’t share the blog screenshot. It has a slightly different layout from the other pages, which is what she requested.
