How can I not be excited when a client asks me for an elegant, hand-drawn logo inspired by Breakfast at Tiffany’s? Andrea is a beauty queen who has a cupcake business. Yes, a real beauty queen with a title, tiara, and everything. She wanted her logo to be hand-drawn, but be reminiscent of a jewelry store instead of a bakeshop. Just look at her inspiration board! Isn’t it gorgeous?
I did one watercolor sketch to serve as inspiration, but I knew this was very different from how the logo would look.
For the overall style, I took a page from the fabulous illustrations of the uber talented Kerrie Hess, as well as 1940’s Vogue fashion illustrations. I sketched the design on Illustrator so that it would be scalable to any size. The font pairing is deliberate – typography had to be simple, as close to the Chanel logo as possible, but with some subtle differences because of the illustration style.
We went through a few versions of the logo, just minor details though, before she settled on the final design.
She intends to have her labels printed using metallic foil on a black background.
