Peg and Thistle (isn’t it a beautiful name?) is an upmarket event design company in the UK specializing in children’s parties. They create beautiful pop up party tents, sleepovers and dens for children, filled with handpicked furnishings, decorations and fun details. The owner, Jenny, wanted a look that was elegant, rustic, classic, with touches of magical county chic. I was instantly in love with the whole concept from the moment I read her design brief!
Here is the color palette that she approved. I curated these images from her Pinterest board. (All of my clients are required to submit one, so I’ll get to have a visual idea of their desired style.)
DESIGNING THE LOGO
Jenny wanted a watercolor illustration of a thistle flower to be part of her logo, so I started with that. (I jump at any chance to do watercolors.) And then I designed the typography around it. Here are the logo concepts I presented.
She ultimately decided on the first one and we played around with variations. Here is the brand board, with the primary logo, and logo variations included.
I designed two patterns for her, one using the thistle illustration and other flowers, and another one with lilac hand-drawn polkadots. Both are in keeping with the overall whimsical look that she wanted for her brand. I can imagine the polkadots in custom wrapping papers!
THE STATIONERY SUITE
Here is her complete stationery suite design, with the presentation folder, letterhead, business card, notecard, and envelope design. Not shown is the sticker design, which is also part of her suite. The presentation folder has the logo on one side and her custom floral pattern on the other. The letterhead uses her alternate logo and the floral pattern as a border. I used a smaller version of the pattern on the business cards and note cards.
I really love how the business card design looks! I think it’s really sweet and whimsical! This project was such a joy to work on! And the client was super nice!
