Featured Project: The Eventful Gals

February 8, 2016 by Patricia

Brand and Website Design for The Eventful Gals

Hi there! I’m super excited to feature this brand and website design that we launched late last year for The Eventful Gals.  Francesca, the lovely owner, availed of our Ultimate Wedding Branding Experience for wedding professionals.  The Eventful Gals offers full wedding planning services in Florida, USA.

After her initial consultation with Ginny Krauss, we started by letting her answer my very extensive design questionnaire, creating a Pinterest board, from which I came up with a color palette that would form the backbone of the design direction. I have to say that I LOVE LOVE LOVE her pins! I had heart emojis all over my eyes when I was creating her mood board of blush, gold, and black.

I  presented her with the following options for her logo.   She wanted a symbol that would represent Florida, but didn’t want a pineapple as it’s been used by so many brands. I thought of a palm leaf instead.

After a couple of rounds of edits, here is the one she eventually chose, including the submark, and the alternate logo version.

Here is the entire branding suite.

After finalizing the logo, brand board, and stationery suite, we then proceeded to work on the website.  Francesca wanted to make sure that it was fun, easy to navigate, would feature lots of pictures, and had gold glitter! I was very happy to oblige, of course! Glitter and I are bffs!

Here is her complete homepage, with gold glitter confetti above the logo, followed by her menubar, a slider of her favorite photos, a short welcome message, featured pages, and latest blog posts.  There aren’t a lot of design elements except for a few subtle glittery dividers, I chose to let her stunning photographs do the talking.

Her site is, of course, mobile responsive and is built on the Genesis Framework like all my other themes.

I also styled her inner pages to match the overall theme, creating page headers and a custom portfolio page to showcase her favorite events.

Do check out her site and leave some love.

And if you are a wedding professional in need of a rebrand, Ginny and I would be happy to help! Get in touch and we’ll discuss our packages and availability.

The typefaces surfacing this week share a theme: n The typefaces surfacing this week share a theme: not serifs broadly, but a specific vintage register, letterforms with visible weight variation, a slightly worn edge, the sense that someone drew them by hand.
The Ashcombe Hall has the gravity of a country house library, the kind of face you'd expect stamped in gold on a leather spine. Vintage Serenade moves looser, more lyrical, closer to something a calligrapher would have signed.
Design has swung this way before. When the Industrial Revolution made everything fast and identical, William Morris and the Arts and Crafts movement answered with ornament, with craft, with the visible mark of the maker. The clean grid had its long turn at the wheel. This particular kind of type, textured, hand-cut, carrying a sense of history in the strokes, is having its own.
The antiques returning to people's living rooms and this type returning to branding are doing the same work. Both are reminding us a skilled hand was involved.
The Victorians read morning glory as fleeting love The Victorians read morning glory as fleeting love. I read it as a flower that simply knows when to leave the party.

There's a lineage running through this one. Ever There's a lineage running through this one.
Every object here survived because someone refused to rush the first pass. That's what craftsmanship actually is, a decision rather than a finish, made once, correctly, by someone with the patience to do it properly. Cornicing nobody hurried. A pattern made stitch by stitch. A tack room that assumes you already know what you're looking at.
The eighteenth century understood something we're still relearning: ornament is a form of discipline, not decoration for its own sake. That's the instinct behind this palette, this pairing, this whole quiet insistence on doing it right.
I am so excited to be working on this brand identity!
