Oh my goodness, I just realized I haven’t posted anything in a gazillion years! 2017 is proving to be a very extremely intensely busy one, not that I’m complaining.
I wanted to highlight this project that Ginny Krauss and I worked on last year, because it was our first time to build a brand strategy and design for a male-owned wedding company. Yes, the owner and lead designer of Top Notch events is a man.
Top Notch Events and Rentals is an event design company with over 16 years of experience in lighting and drapery, as well as other rental items. Top Notch, which is based in Birmingham in Alabama, has received awards for their work and is well reviewed by clients.
Their old logo and website were badly in need of a redesign, and my brand strategy partner, Ginny Krauss and I were so happy to be chosen to help in their rebranding. Ginny did such a fantastic job with their brand strategy, considering that this was a major rebranding that we would be undertaking, and the new logo will replace the old one not just in their business cards, but also their brick and mortar office and transport vehicles. So no pressure. ha!
Here is the moodboard and color palette that I created based on everything they sent (design brief + Pinterest board).
We had to keep in mind that the chief designer is male, so the main color for their brand is really the midnight blue, gold, and grey, and the peach tones would just be accent colors – and we used them really sparingly.
LOGO DESIGN
They decided that they didn’t want to use any florals because they didn’t want people to see Top Notch Events as a florist. We decided on a chandelier design instead, since they specialize in lighting, and it harkens back to their old logo which had a chandelier in it. Here are some of the options I presented, for the color combination.

WEBSITE DESIGN
Their website design follows the same overall look. It is modern, elegant, and easy to navigate. Built on the Genesis Framework and powered by WordPress, it is of course mobile responsive, and also fairly easy for them to maintain themselves. They didn’t want to blog on it, so it would be purely informational.
