Do you struggle to keep house plants alive? Or do plants naturally flourish under your care?
I love house plants. They make any space look so much better, they make you feel good, they purify the air naturally, and they make you smarter too! Unfortunately, I didn’t get my mother’s talent with plants. In all our 10 years here, I’ve only managed to get two plants to stay alive. Barely.
Yes, those two sad-looking plants are the only ones that have survived my horticultural skills (or lack of). And they’re on the list of plants that are hard to kill. 🙂 Sadly, so is this plant –
And as you can see, it’s barely thriving! I placed it outside the door to hide the ugly pipes. And yes, I water it regularly and it gets plenty of sunlight just as the instructions said. But it’s still dying. I’ve already killed so many flowering plants so I’m not going to attempt caring for them anymore. These are supposedly really hardy plants and they don’t look too happy living with us. haha.
If you’re like me, and you really like the look of plants inside your home, there are other options.
You can try artificial flowers. Like these silk hydrangeas. (Pathetic, I know, but what can I do?)
Or you could hang paintings or art prints of flowers and plants. I can’t afford to buy them, so I’ve been painting these almost every day. They make me happy. But I can’t take have the real thing, so these will have to do.
I notice that a lot of artists and crafters I know all struggle with black thumbs. Do you think there’s a correlation here somewhere? Or is it because we tend to get so immersed in our work that we fail to pay attention to everything else?
Do you have any tips on how to get house plants to thrive? Please share in the comments, I’d really love some help! 🙂
Super pretty florals!
I have a black thumb too. I really can’t grow plants well. I don’t know why. I just don’t have that gardener’s touch the way my Dad does. He takes care of all the plants in our garden and does the landscaping himself!!! A plant in a cup dies at my hands.
Maybe we should try talking to them. I think I tend to neglect them because I see them as decoration (accents) inside our home. Perhaps if I treated them like part of the family their life span would lengthen. I should try that. 🙂
What do you think?
Hi Toni!
Hey, that makes sense! But then I do talk to my plants, you know. And I even ask my kids to sing to them some times. 🙂 I haven’t tried “relating” to them though. Maybe I should try that!
Coolness! Let us know how it goes!
