Is there anything better than ice cream on a warm mid-week afternoon? With final exams over for the kids, (and good scores! yay!) we’ve been treating them to all of their favourite food. Ice cream is a frequent request, as are chips. (So unhealthy, I know.) My older son is very picky though, and prefers gelato and sorbet over regular ice cream.
Good quality gelato is not easy to find here in Singapore, especially one that delivers to your home. I was so glad to find Matilda’s Gelato. The sell ice cream, sorbet, gelato, and frozen yoghurt — all 100% homemade, with no preservatives. The best part is, they offer express delivery, 24 hrs a day, so you can even satisfy midnight cravings.

The ordering experience was very easy – although a lot of their flavours were out of stock. A bit disappointing as there was one flavour I was really curious to try (saffron pistachio). However, the delivery was on schedule, the ice cream well packed and still frozen.

I ordered 3 flavours: salted caramel with almonds, vanilla, and earl grey. (I was curious about the earl grey ice cream as it’s my favourite tea!)

You can really taste the bergamot flavour in the earl grey ice cream. It was creamy and yet light, and had just the right amount of sweetness. I find most American brands too sweet. This was perfect. I’m saving this for myself! haha!

The salted caramel with almonds was voted the favourite among my sons and my hubby. The generous amount of almond chunks makes it really good, and the salted caramel flavour is so addictive. What is it about pairing salty and sweet that makes it so difficult to stop eating?!

The test of any gelato or ice cream brand, in my opinion, is how they do vanilla. It may be the most boring of all flavours for some people, but it’s the most comforting one for me. One spoonful of Matilda Gelato‘s vanilla was enough to convince me that they know what they’re doing! It was perfect in taste, smell, and texture. This is a classic vanilla gelato, so don’t expect to find specks of vanilla beans in it (so maybe I’ll rate it 4.5/5 stars). Would I order it again? Absolutely.
