This was one of my most exciting projects for 2013, and I’m so excited to share it with you! The owners of this new children’s lifestyle shop already had a pretty good idea of the look they want for their brand, Mukemmel. Mukemmel is a Turkish word that means excellent, elegant, consummate, or perfect. Their logo, therefore, had to have an upscale, premium look, nothing cartoony. They were going for a clean, whimsical, vintage look with muted neutrals, not the usual pastels that define most children’s wear brands.
I initially chose a very Turkish-inspired shape for the logo design, but they didn’t want the sharp corners on it, because they were concerned about it not being good for feng shui. Here are the variations that we considered:
They chose the first concept, but without the scalloped edges and with rounded corners. I also designed a seamless repeating pattern that they can use for packaging and other printed materials in 3 colour schemes (gold, salmon, and a more vibrant palette that they wanted to add just for their packaging.)
After we finalized the logo and patterns, I set out to design the full branding suite, consisting of a letterhead, envelopes, business cards, stickers, labels, designs for their social media pages, and product tags in the form of a ruler.
