Ashley Cox Leadership Mentor

PROJECT TYPE:
  • BRAND IDENTITY DEVELOPMENT
INDUSTRY: COACHING & CONSULTANCY
LOCATION: TENNESSEE, USA

Ashley Cox was going through a major revamp of her business model and needed a completely new brand (and brand name) to capture the core of her vision and purpose for the new business. Previously SproutHR, Ashley was niching down her services to focus solely on Leadership Development and Consulting, which means eliminating all services relating to HR.

We worked together closely to develop her brand strategy, SWOT analysis, and UVP in order to guide how to communicate her brand to her target audience.  Ashley wanted a brand that represents this growth and evolution. Something more elegant, higher end, and sophisticated. I designed very organic, leaf-inspired letterforms and a color palette in autumn hues to convey warmth, passion, and wisdom.

Here's what Ashley had to say:

"Having worked with Fancy Girl Designs before, I knew they had the expertise and skill needed for the rebrand my business wanted and needed. When I think of luxury branding, they're always the first to come to mind! The experience working together continues to elevate with each project - I loved the in-depth questionnaires, which helped me ground into the direction I wanted to take my new brand. The follow-up calls to walk through the questionnaire and extract even more nuance were especially appreciated.

I'm OVER THE MOON with what we achieved together! They brought my new brand to life better than I could have imagined. It feels aligned, sophisticated, and warm. It feels unique. It feels luxurious. And, best of all, it's given me a boost of confidence I didn't expect! I'm beyond proud of this beautiful new brand and how it helps me show up in the world more boldly."

The custom monogram forms the letters H and A, but if you look at it long enough, you'll notice the curves of the letter A forms a letter L - which stands for Lisa, the founder's name.
We wanted the brand to look and feel premium but welcoming, as befits her years of experience and level of expertise.
The typefaces surfacing this week share a theme: n The typefaces surfacing this week share a theme: not serifs broadly, but a specific vintage register, letterforms with visible weight variation, a slightly worn edge, the sense that someone drew them by hand.
The Ashcombe Hall has the gravity of a country house library, the kind of face you'd expect stamped in gold on a leather spine. Vintage Serenade moves looser, more lyrical, closer to something a calligrapher would have signed.
Design has swung this way before. When the Industrial Revolution made everything fast and identical, William Morris and the Arts and Crafts movement answered with ornament, with craft, with the visible mark of the maker. The clean grid had its long turn at the wheel. This particular kind of type, textured, hand-cut, carrying a sense of history in the strokes, is having its own.
The antiques returning to people's living rooms and this type returning to branding are doing the same work. Both are reminding us a skilled hand was involved.
The Victorians read morning glory as fleeting love The Victorians read morning glory as fleeting love. I read it as a flower that simply knows when to leave the party.
