HOME HOUSE INTERIORS

PROJECT TYPE:
  • BESPOKE LOGO DESIGN
  • PROPOSAL TEMPLATE DESIGN
  • BESPOKE WEBSITE DESIGN
INDUSTRY: INTERIOR DESIGN
LOCATION: NEW YORK, USA

For over three decades, Home House Interiors has designed homes across New York City and beyond, specializing in small, high-end residential projects. As a small boutique deisgn firm owned by Sharon Soltis, they take on a very select number of projects, and are known for timeless, unpretentious style. Sharon is very refined & detail-oriented and brings her English heritage and her keen eye to every project.

We collaborated closely together to design a brand identity that captures her tagline - 'classic English interiors', and a phrase that she wanted to bring into the copy: 'rooted in design'. She needed an icon that spoke to that - very carefully considered and yet unpretentious. More like London mews rather than Belgravia. And we couldn't forget that her target audience live in NYC, so it had to be classic & traditional, but still cosmopolitan.

PROPOSAL TEMPLATE DESIGN

HHI Custom Template Mockup

Sharon needed a proposal template that was on-brand, and that she could edit easily. I designed this for her on Canva, with pages that corresponded to what she needed to send to prospective clients. I also helped her create a brand kit on Canva so that it will be easier for her to apply her brand elements to all other marketing materials she needs to create.

BESPOKE WEBSITE DESIGN

The website needed to be easy to understand, professional, and convey trust and expertise. Furthermore, we had to strike a balance between promoting their services while respecting Sharon's deep desire for privacy.  (It's hard to be an introvert in business!)

HHI homepage launch

Apart from the engaging layout and seamless flow of the website, we also created custom forms and questionnaires that would enable Sharon to automate some aspects of her process without having to resort to a CRM.

HHI Launch 3

Here's what Sharon has to say:

"I am very pleased with the outcome. You have done an amazing job - I almost feel as though now I know what to expect I would like to start another business, so you can do another website for me.

You have been patient, responsive, kind and informative.
Keep up the good work!"

Positioning is a decision.
You don’t wait to be selected by whoever inquires. You choose.
Choose who you want to work with, what you want to be known for, and how you want your business to be perceived.
That’s positioning.

The custom monogram forms the letters H and A, but if you look at it long enough, you'll notice the curves of the letter A forms a letter L - which stands for Lisa, the founder's name.
We wanted the brand to look and feel premium but welcoming, as befits her years of experience and level of expertise.
The typefaces surfacing this week share a theme: n The typefaces surfacing this week share a theme: not serifs broadly, but a specific vintage register, letterforms with visible weight variation, a slightly worn edge, the sense that someone drew them by hand.
The Ashcombe Hall has the gravity of a country house library, the kind of face you'd expect stamped in gold on a leather spine. Vintage Serenade moves looser, more lyrical, closer to something a calligrapher would have signed.
Design has swung this way before. When the Industrial Revolution made everything fast and identical, William Morris and the Arts and Crafts movement answered with ornament, with craft, with the visible mark of the maker. The clean grid had its long turn at the wheel. This particular kind of type, textured, hand-cut, carrying a sense of history in the strokes, is having its own.
The antiques returning to people's living rooms and this type returning to branding are doing the same work. Both are reminding us a skilled hand was involved.
