Queen Bee Travel Club

March 10, 2020 by Patricia

PROJECT: FULL BRANDING SUITE + PROFESSIONAL WEB DESIGN

Queen Bee Travel Club is a full-service travel provider and professional travel planning service. They provide custom itineraries and arrange flights, land transportation, cruise and hotel bookings, private & guided tours, and group travel. I worked with Bianca to create a brand identity and web design that captured the luxurious, bespoke service that they provide, and conveyed this message to their ideal clients.

Mood Board and Colour Palette

The color palette is made up of deep blues, mustard yellow, and gold. We went for a rich, bold, and regal vibe – perfect for a queen bee, in fact!

LOGO DESIGN

The client wanted a very modern, bold, almost geometric look for her logo. I designed a custom icon, and paired it with a stylized display sans-serif.

WEBSITE DESIGN

It was important that the website feature gorgeous travel images, so we used a combination of stock photos and the client’s own, all over the pages. Lots of white space combined with easy to read type make for a modern, luxurious look that is easy to figure out, easy to navigate.

The website is, of course, mobile responsive and I made sure it looks great on all devices. Built on the Genesis Framework, which extends the powers of WordPress, and combined with Beaver Builder for flexibility. Those are my 3 favourite tools for building amazing websites.

The custom monogram forms the letters H and A, but if you look at it long enough, you'll notice the curves of the letter A forms a letter L - which stands for Lisa, the founder's name.
We wanted the brand to look and feel premium but welcoming, as befits her years of experience and level of expertise.

The Ashcombe Hall has the gravity of a country house library, the kind of face you'd expect stamped in gold on a leather spine. Vintage Serenade moves looser, more lyrical, closer to something a calligrapher would have signed.
Design has swung this way before. When the Industrial Revolution made everything fast and identical, William Morris and the Arts and Crafts movement answered with ornament, with craft, with the visible mark of the maker. The clean grid had its long turn at the wheel. This particular kind of type, textured, hand-cut, carrying a sense of history in the strokes, is having its own.
The antiques returning to people's living rooms and this type returning to branding are doing the same work. Both are reminding us a skilled hand was involved.
