A lot of web designers host their clients’ websites, but not me. I don’t believe you should hand over the reins of something so important as your website’s server, or domain name, to somebody else. This is a belief I have held from the start, ever since I had to redesign someone’s website, and have had a difficult time asking for access from their previous web designer who has: a) moved out of the country, b) closed up shop, c) refused to give the client access to the cpanel, or d) simply refused to answer emails.
You should own your domain and hosting account. Think of these as business assets. You should have full control of these so that any time you need to access them, you will be able to do so easily. You went into business because you want control of your time and resources and although you may outsource a lot of tasks that you don’t like to do, your assets should be within your control.
