SEO for Interior Designers: Getting Your Website Found by the Right Clients

December 3, 2025 by Patricia

If you’ve ever stared at your Google Analytics wondering why crickets are louder than your inquiries, you’re not alone. Most interior designers rely on referrals—amazing when they come, slightly panic-inducing when they don’t.

And in a world where your potential clients literally Google everything (“classic living room ideas,” “kitchen remodel designer near me,” “interior designer who gets my style”), your website has to do more than just look beautiful.

It needs to be findable.
Enter: SEO.

But don’t worry—this isn’t a tech bro lecture. This is SEO for interior designers explained in a way that actually makes sense (and dare I say… is kind of fun?).

what SEO means for interior designers

What SEO Actually Means for Interior Designers

Search Engine Optimization sounds complicated, but at its core, it’s just:

Making your website easy for your dream clients—and Google—to understand.

That’s it.
No secret potions, no coding wizardry. Just strategy, structure, and a little consistency.

Why SEO Matters More Than Ever

Interior design is a highly visual, high-trust industry. Your future clients want to see proof that you can transform a space like theirs and that you understand their style.

But before they fall in love with your portfolio…
They have to actually find your portfolio.

Good SEO helps you:

  • Show up for local clients searching for a designer in your area
  • Become discoverable for the styles and specialties you’re known for
  • Build authority and trust before clients ever fill out your form
  • Attract clients who are actively ready to book

In other words: stop competing in the noisy scroll of Instagram, and show up where people have buying intent—Google.

Where Interior Designers Should Focus First

1. Keywords That Match What Clients Actually Search

Think beyond “interior designer” (too broad).
Instead try:

  • “interior designer in [your city]”
  • “modern coastal interior designer”
  • “kitchen remodel designer [city]”
  • “luxury interior designer for new builds”

These are the searches that bring qualified clients—not Pinterest DIYers who want you to “look at my mood board real quick.”

Use these keywords naturally in your:

  • Homepage headline
  • Service pages
  • Portfolio project descriptions
  • Blog posts
  • Meta titles and descriptions

2. A Portfolio Page That’s a Google Magnet

A beautiful gallery is great.
A beautiful gallery with optimized descriptions, alt text, and search-friendly project titles is better.

Instead of:
“Project 03 – Coastal Home”
Try:
“Modern Coastal Interior Design for Family Home in Jupiter, Florida”

Tell Google exactly what it’s looking at.

3. Local SEO: Your Secret Advantage

If you work with clients in person, local SEO is where the magic happens.

Make sure you have:

  • A complete Google Business Profile
  • Your exact service areas listed on your site
  • Location keywords woven naturally into your content
  • Reviews from happy clients (Google loves these)

4. Blog Posts That Answer Client Questions

Blogging isn’t about writing your diary.
It’s about writing what your clients are already Googling, like:

  • “How to choose an interior designer”
  • “What to expect during a home remodel”
  • “Interior design trends that won’t go out of style”

Every post becomes a little digital salesperson working for you 24/7.

What Designers Get Wrong About SEO

Let’s clear this up:

❌ SEO is not stuffing your site with keywords
❌ SEO is not writing blog posts for robots
❌ SEO is not a one-and-done task
❌ SEO is not optional (if you want consistent inquiries)

✔ SEO is how you attract clients who are actively looking for a designer like you.
✔ SEO is how you make your website your hardest-working marketing asset.
✔ SEO is completely doable—even if tech talk makes your eyes glaze over.

The Bottom Line: SEO Makes Everything Easier

Strong SEO means:

  • Fewer feast-or-famine seasons
  • Higher-quality leads
  • More inquiries from people who “just knew” they had to work with you
  • A brand and website that grow with you

Your business becomes easier to find, easier to trust, and easier to hire.

And that?
That’s a major win for any interior design studio.

Because SEO is essential, I have now included full website SEO into my bespoke web design service. Let’s chat if you’d like your interior design website to be seen by the right people.
