You’re watching The Crown on Netflix, right?
I am absolutely obsessed! It’s a historical drama set in the period surrounding Elizabeth II’s ascension to the throne. This ambitious project took $100 million to produce and has the most amazing costumes and set design ever ever. (And I’m a Game of Thrones fan so I don’t say that lightly.)
I love how we can see Queen Elizabeth learn to deal with her different roles, as wife, mother, and queen. Claire Foy is stunning in her role as the monarch, and brilliantly depicts her growing confidence, as well as her insecurities and challenges. I am particularly fascinated by how she portrays the queen becoming more and more comfortable in her role as monarch, even if she only ever wanted a simple, quiet life. She plays the role with a sensitivity and intelligence that is riveting.
It’s one of the most fascinating historical dramas I’ve ever watched, partly because most of the characters are still alive today.
And also, hello! The costumes are aaah-mazing! The really went for historical accuracy so you don’t really notice the costumes apart from the story, but that they’re actually part of the story. As a fan of vintage fashion, this show is absolute eye-candy. Can we go back to this fashion era please?
I’m so happy they’re already producing Season 2! I can’t wait!
