I’ve been trying to learn modern calligraphy for a few months now, and I have to confess that I’m finding out that it’s not as easy as I thought it would be. Professional calligraphers deserve to be paid every dollar that they charge and more. It takes painstaking practice for hours, every single day, before you can even say your work is good enough to be shared. Which is exactly why I haven’t been sharing my calligraphy here yet. Hahaha! (If you want to see my pitiful attempts, follow me on Instagram.)
If calligraphy isn’t your thing, but you love the style, there is a shortcut! A lot of the recently-released typefaces have been calligraphy-inspired. I gathered a list of those that really look like modern calligraphy (not Spencerian or Copperplate), but are pretty enough to be used on wedding invitations, stationery, and logo designs. There were so many to choose from, but I handpicked these 10 for their feminine style and realistic handwritten look.
Feast your eyes on these samples created by the font designers themselves. Which one is your favourite? Let me know in the comments!
Thanks for this, Patricia. I’m really interested in learning calligraphy. I like the bombshell pro. Hope you can conduct a workshop for first timers like me. 🙂
