I haven’t been able to get this quote out of my mind since I read it last week at Marie Forleo’s Facebook page. I do think that before you should concern yourself with SEO tricks or marketing, you should first try to be good at what you do. Be an authority, create work that matters, make your clients happy. You probably won’t even have to expend so much energy marketing your services or products by then, because people will be flocking to you based on word of mouth alone.
This is why I continue to develop and update my skills, and why I do my best each and every time. By pushing through every challenge, I also make sure that my best today is better than yesterday’s. I love working on projects that challenge my problem-solving abilities and get me out of my comfort zone — projects that make me think, “I’m not sure if I can do this.” Those are the projects that always lead to breakthroughs in my skill level.
Remember this line from Harry Potter and The Order of the Phoenix? “Every great wizard in history has started out as nothing more than we are now. Students. If they can do it, why not us?” So let’s all clock in our 10,000 hours and reach that level of mastery we all aim for.
