Website Stats Every Business Owner Should Know

July 5, 2024 by Patricia

Where everything is online nowadays, a website isn’t just a virtual brochure anymore; it’s the cornerstone of your brand’s online presence. Just like a well-maintained storefront creates a positive first impression, user experience (UX) and web design are critical for businesses of all sizes. The way your website looks, feels, and functions has a profound impact on how visitors perceive your brand and ultimately, their decision to convert, whether it’s a purchase, a contact form submission, or a download. Conversion rate optimization (CRO) is all about strategically crafting a user journey that fosters trust and increases engagement.

So, is your website a silent salesman effectively guiding visitors towards your goals, or a ghost town collecting cobwebs? The following statistics will shed light on the undeniable power of a well-designed website, equipped to turn website visitors into loyal customers. Some of them may even surprise you.

  1. 94% of first impressions are design-related. A poorly designed website can turn away potential customers before they even have a chance to explore your products or services. (From WebFX)
  2. It takes 0.05 seconds for users to form an opinion about your website. Yes, it’s that fast. And also, remember that people process images faster than text. That first image that people see when they land on your website? Maybe give it more thought. What impression does it give?
  3. More than 90% of users indicate poor design as a primary reason for not trusting a website. Are you coming across as professional and established? Or sketchy and outdated? If you are in a creative industry, having an up to date design is probably even more important.
  4. 88% of users are less likely to return to a website after a bad user experience. Is your website easy to navigate? Can people easily find what they’re looking for?
  5. Users spend an average of 5.94 seconds looking at a website’s main image. And so we go back to the hero banner on your homepage. Are you showcasing work you want to be known for? Does it communicate what it is you do, and the quality of work people can expect?
  6. 89% of consumers shop with a competitor after a poor user experience. Ouch. Make it easy for people to find what they’re looking for, and to part with their money. Just imagine, 21% of cart abandonments are due to complicated or lengthy checkout experiences. 17% cite lack of trust. (from Dynamic Yield)
  7. 40% of consumers value images, and 39% appreciate color more than any other component of a website’s design. Although this stat is from 2021, and more people prefer video content now. (From Clutch)

The statistics speak for themselves: a well-designed website isn’t just a pretty face, it’s a powerful tool that builds trust, drives conversions, and fosters long-term brand loyalty. But with so much information at our fingertips, it can be overwhelming to know where to begin.

This is where bespoke website design comes in. A custom-tailored website solution takes into account your unique brand identity, target audience, and business goals. Imagine a website that seamlessly guides visitors towards your desired actions, whether it’s making a purchase, signing up for your newsletter, or simply learning more about what you offer.

Positioning is a decision.
You don’t wait to be selected by whoever inquires. You choose.
Choose who you want to work with, what you want to be known for, and how you want your business to be perceived.
That’s positioning.

The custom monogram forms the letters H and A, but if you look at it long enough, you'll notice the curves of the letter A forms a letter L - which stands for Lisa, the founder's name.
We wanted the brand to look and feel premium but welcoming, as befits her years of experience and level of expertise.

The Ashcombe Hall has the gravity of a country house library, the kind of face you'd expect stamped in gold on a leather spine. Vintage Serenade moves looser, more lyrical, closer to something a calligrapher would have signed.
Design has swung this way before. When the Industrial Revolution made everything fast and identical, William Morris and the Arts and Crafts movement answered with ornament, with craft, with the visible mark of the maker. The clean grid had its long turn at the wheel. This particular kind of type, textured, hand-cut, carrying a sense of history in the strokes, is having its own.
The antiques returning to people's living rooms and this type returning to branding are doing the same work. Both are reminding us a skilled hand was involved.
