Grandmillennial Essentials

March 29, 2021 by Patricia

House Beautiful magazine made it official. After a decade of modern, minimalist, farmhouse, Scandinavian sparse, farmhouse white interiors, the traditional maximalist style is finally back in the most wonderful way! Colors, florals, blue gingar jars, chintz, tassels, chinoiserie, layered spaces & patterns, all of them are finally being embraced again and I am here for it!

I have never been a minimalist decorator, and even if we live in a tiny flat here in Singapore, I have always filled our home with textures, patterns, and beautiful objects. I just make sure the scale is appropriate to the space so it doesn’t feel like we live inside Aladdin’s cave. The Scandi style just never appealed to me. It’s nice to look at in other people’s homes, for sure. And if you’re a newbie decorator, it’s easy to pull off, and hard to get wrong. Just visit Ikea and copy any of their styled rooms and you’re done.

It was such a thrill when Rachel of Haute Stock accepted my suggestion to design a set of grandmillennial-inspired graphics for the stock library! I wasted no time illustrating a set of cliparts and backgrounds that I hope other designers would find useful! These would make great icons for social media and websites. Head over to Haute Stock if you’re a member, and download the set.

Fresh flowers always brighten my day and make our Fresh flowers always brighten my day and make our home feel happier 💖
I’m all about elevating the everyday, and flowers are the easiest way to do that. They don’t need to be expensive flowers, nor do they need to match your decor perfectly. Choose flowers that make you happy! But also pay attention to proportion, balance, and composition.
Here in Singapore there are so many options for fresh cut flowers. I always have mine delivered though because I’m lazy. 🤣

BCG and Altagamma's 2026 True-Luxury Global Consumer Insights surveyed over ten thousand luxury consumers across eleven markets, and measured trust in every source a client uses before a purchase. A brand's own website came out ahead of word of mouth, ahead of traditional search, and more than three times ahead of anything found through an influencer.
The same report tracked why people buy luxury at all, over nine years, and found the answer has changed.
Status, recognition, and being seen have all LOST GROUND. Self-reward, time, and how something feels have taken their place.
A website built to be seen and a website built to be trusted by someone who no longer buys to be seen are not the same website.
If a client landed on yours today, what would they feel before they saw a single project? What's the first line that would need to change?

Marianna Bernardi came to us needing more than a new logo. Her studio's presence didn't match the work she was doing or where she wanted to take it.
We spent time understanding how she wanted her business to feel before a single design decision was made. The result: a visual identity and website that feels like an extension of her, not a costume borrowed for the occasion.
Thank you for the kind words, Marianna!
